David Byrne, whose new album, American Utopia, is due March 9 on Todomundo/Nonesuch Records, begins a five-city European tour of his ongoing Reasons To Be Cheerful project.
David Byrne has announced a short run of free lectures to take place across Europe over the coming days. Entitled "Reasons to Be Cheerful," it’s a continuation of a concept that he says informed American Utopia, his first album in 14 years, which arrives in March.
“We are essentially partners with the labels, and should be treated that way,” Byrne said. “Artists and labels have many common interests—both are appalled, for instance, by the oddly meager payments from YouTube (more people globally listen to music free on YouTube than anywhere else).”
